Love & Lazer Beams, LANTERNS Continues to Dominate Streaming tv
Lanterns continues to dominate this season's streaming series for three main reasons: The Tech. The Drama. The Action.
In episodes 4 and 5, we get some major reveals, some of which I predicted in my last video.
We find out that the town is indeed a staging set, somewhat, for the elusive intergalactic fugitive, a Martian Man Hunter, created by the guardians to be the original peacekeepers but who became a maniacal failed experiment that the Guardians decided to exterminate.
In a flashback from the sheriff's pov, we find out that she too, was on the run from extermination by some very bad men but is saved by Zoe, who turns out to be the Martian Man Hunter in its current disguise.
The town has been under her protection for at least the last 20 years and everyone there owes her their life in some way.
As part of the bargain to keep their town and their lives at peace, all of the residents have been gearing up and training for the moment when they would need to sacrifice themselves to save Zoe's life.
The scifi tech continues to walk a fun line between comic book aesthetic and B movie props, with deadly laser beams and killer satellites serving as main plot pieces.
And, of course the drama keeps shocking us every single time. We are not ready for when Hal once again crashes a car to try to keep John from being the hero. And we also not prepared for the car to blow up, burning John alive.
He's later saved by Zoe and regenerated to his former self in exchange for his allegiance to keep her safe and alive, and to step aside while she kills Hal.
Knowing that John is both an ethical man but also true to his word, we aren't quite sure what he will do until the very last moment, when he decides to do a medley of both: beating the crap out of Hal and leaving him trapped in the destroyed motel, and then killing Zoe and taking her crystalized heart as proof to the guardians that she was the Martian man hunter and that she is now dead.
Another shocker follows as John rejects becoming the new Green Lantern because he now realizes that keeping the ring and protecting his elite position as Earth's intergalactic hero, would require him to continuously compromise every piece of his morality, just like Hal. He walks off, leaving the guardian stunned.
