Gods Don't Give Gifts, the Rise of Technocracy

Nearly a century ago, the grandfather of a modern tech oligarch (I will let you guess which one), spearheaded a movement called Technocracy. It is a political-type thinking that sets its roots in the belief that society should be governed by intellectuals like scientists, engineers, mathematicians and the like, not by politicians voted in my democratic process. The darker part, not everyone has a place in this type of society, this technology-based utopia.

Now, the voice and spirit of technocracy is on the rise again.

Besides the encroachment of artificial intelligence, automation, and super intelligence (pick your favorite, but they all lead back to the same address) into almost every (if not all) spaces of our business and personal lives, now we have the dawn of a new cinematic frontier. Are we ready for this is not (seems to have never been) the question. The question is, does this new frontier have room for fully biological humans across this quickly evolving and expanding technocratic and transhumanism landscape?

A new movie, set to release this December, is about to be both the prequel and beta test of this dangling question.

Gods Don't Give Gifts is set to be the first fully AI production, backed by a major studio (Amazon) to premiere in theaters. Created by YouTuber Gossip Goblin, real name Zack London, the film is set in a far off, dystopian looking future where humans have uploaded their consciousnesses into quasi-biological machines of all types. Death does not exist in that world, at least not in the permanent sense. But what does that mean for humanity itself? If we are not based in carbon biology, but silicone and mechanized constructs instead, can we continue to call ourselves human? Or maybe this is the point, to transcend to an endless realm of being able to swap our shells like a crab along the unending sea of time. But…then what?

While for some this vision is utopia, for others it may become a living hell.
